Officer-Involved Shooting Leaves Suspect Dead in Gwinnett
A man died late Tuesday night after a police pursuit and subsequent shooting in Gwinnett County, according to local authorities. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on December 30 in the 5700 block of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.
Gwinnett County Police responded to reports of a vehicle associated with a prior incident in another jurisdiction. During the encounter, police said the suspect rammed a marked patrol vehicle, disabling it, and fled the scene.
Officers located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit, which ended when the suspect crashed. According to police, the man exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers issued multiple loud verbal commands for him to stop, but he did not comply. An officer attempted to deploy a Taser, but it was unsuccessful.
During the foot chase, police reported that the man brandished a firearm. An officer then discharged their weapon, striking the suspect. Authorities stated the man fell but subsequently turned and pointed the gun at the officers, resulting in additional shots being fired.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities have not yet released his identity. No officers sustained injuries during the incident.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation and will provide updates as more details emerge.
