Exciting New Dog Park Coming to Lawrenceville This Summer!
Lawrenceville is about to become a dog lover’s paradise! The city has officially greenlit plans for a brand-new urban dog park, much to the delight of local pet owners. As reported by 11Alive, the City Council approved construction bids during a meeting on February 26, paving the way for a fantastic new space for pups to play and socialize.
Nestled at the corner of Jackson and Luckie Streets, this 0.41-acre park is designed to be a lively hub for dogs and their humans alike. Mayor David Still shared that the city has received countless requests for a dedicated dog park over the years, and he expressed his excitement about finally meeting this community need. “The chosen location, adjacent to the Lawrenceville Lawn, is ideal for its high activity and accessibility to residents,” Still noted.
The park will feature separate play areas for both large and small dogs, ensuring that every furry friend has a safe and enjoyable space to romp around. An eight-foot-wide concrete pathway will separate the two zones, all surrounded by decorative security fencing. Safety is a top priority, with double-gated entrances to keep our adventurous pets secure.
To keep our four-legged companions comfortable, the park will boast artificial turf, an automatic irrigation system, and strategically placed dog waste bins to maintain a clean environment. Dog agility equipment, shade structures, benches, and water fountains will enhance the experience for both pets and their owners. The park will mirror the visiting hours of the Lawrenceville Lawn, making it a convenient option for daytime outings.
The decision to create this park came after thorough research by city staff who looked into successful dog parks in other areas. Additionally, city officials are keen on hosting dog-themed events at the Lawn, such as the popular PAWfest. Following a competitive bidding process, Zaveri Enterprises, Inc. has been awarded the project, which is estimated to cost $677,899.60, funded by SPLOST dollars. The council’s unanimous vote means we can expect this exciting new addition to be completed in one phase and open by summer. So, keep your tails wagging, Lawrenceville—your new dog park is on the way!
